Dot Com Crash Best Thing Ever For Linux?

I just had a realization:

What if the dot com crash turns out to be the best thing that ever happened for Linux? I mean, think about it: the tech economy slows way down, big corporations start bombing into Chapter 11 all over the place, and Micro$oft implements it’s most restrictive licensing scheme to date. Compound all that with the Code Red viruses from the last month, and where does that put us? Plus, Linux on the desktop is really starting to happen–don’t believe me? Check out KDE 2.2 (http://www.kde.org) and see for yourself. BTW, you’ll need to install Linux first. Heheh

Seriously, though, Linux is really coming into it’s own right now, and will do so even more in the next six months to one year. I think these dark clouds may hold a silver lining, after all–and M$’s recent assault on Linux and Open Source in general could be read as their realization of the same. Time will tell. If I’m wrong, it won’t be the first time–but if I’m right, wouldn’t that be cool? It gives me shivers just thinking about it–Linux become even more popular, that is, not about me being right (for a change).
