SAVE ELLWOOD

From the SBslopers.org site:

”The Ellwood Mesa is home to a myriad of wildlife and features rare vernal pools during the wet season. During the winter season it is often home to large gatherings of Monarch butterflies. The Ellwood Mesa is one of the last remaining open spaces in the area that is open for the public to enjoy. People enjoy hiking, wildlife viewing, biking, horseback riding, and flying their R/C sailplanes on this property.

Unfortunately, housing development plans threaten the future existence of this natural habitat / open space. Preservationist groups and concerned citizens are working hard, attempting to raise enough money to purchase the land from the developer so that it can be preserved in its natural state for future generations to enjoy. There is little time, as funds must be raised for the purchase by late June of 2003.

We encourage you to visit the Ellwood Mesa to see for yourself why it is so worth preserving as a natural habitat and open space. Please visit the Ellwood Coast website at www.ellwoodcoast.org for more information.”
