Anyone can sympathize with the plight of Bethany Hamilton, the Kauai girl who lost her arm last week to a shark while surfing the north shore of her home island. As a surfer myself, the thought of a debilitating injury that could inhibit my ability to surf is one of the most unappealing things I can think of. What this 13 year old girl is going through, who had sponsorships lined up and looked ready to launch a very successful pro surfing career, can only be imagined. I just hope she recovers and is able to get back to surfing at whatever level possible.

UPDATE: Those looking to help help support Bethany can do so via a website her family has set up for her:
