A better photo of the Pelican… definitely thinking to go with a honey colored Brooks saddle.

The Pelican is Built!
My Pelican is finally built up… I’m stoked! The guys at FasTrack Bicycles were brought in to do the build, and they did an excellent job on the basic assembly. With that said, there’s still a fair bit to be done… install the fenders, setup the dynamo lighting system, mount the handlebar bag, cut the [...]
Raphanneuring
A “raphanneur” fully decked out for a grueling 80mi day of what Rapha apparently thinks passes for randonneruing Rapha, purveyors of some of the most expensive cycling kit ever created, are apparently now fashioning themselves “randonneurs”… which in the Rapha-verse, means leading riders willing to fork over $4000US on 6 day, 600mi fully supported “randonnees” [...]
Google Bike Maps
Well it’s been all over the web: Google Maps now feature bicycle routes and direction finding. I checked out what they’ve got for Santa Barbara and it’s really not bad at all – see above. Not sure how useful it will be for me here in town, but for travel – quite so.
PCH Randos 400km brevet
So I signed up for the PCH Randonneurs 400km (250mi) brevet this coming March 13th… wish me luck! This will (once again) be my longest ride to date and should be a good time. We’ll see! The 300km last month was a lot of fun, this route is almost the same, just a bit longer. [...]
Just riding along…
Here’s a photo taken by Greg Jones, the PCH Randos RBA, of me riding up Santa Ana road about 45mi into the 300k brevet I completed last Saturday. So stoked to have a photograph of myself on the bike, I have very, very few of me actually riding. More of Greg’s photos here.
300k Brevet: 15hrs of WIN!
Yesterday I completed my longest bicycle ride to date, a 300km (188mi) brevet with the PCH Randos. I finished in 15hrs 9min, starting at 6:33am and ending at 9:42pm. Although rain was in the forecast, we lucked out with nearly perfect weather: no rain, comfortable temperatures, and relatively little wind. This was a nice change [...]
PCH Randos 300km brevet
Tomorrow I will attempt my longest ride to date, a 300km (185mi) brevet with the PCH Randos. The weather forecast calls for a chance of rain and almost certainly some wind, should be fun! Very glad I toughed it out through that long, very wet and very windy training ride two weeks ago. Wish me [...]
The Pelican has landed
My Box Dog Bikes Pelican frameset has come in… ahead of schedule! I’m so excited. Apologies for the hurried photos but it’s all I’ve got for now. The frame is beautifully made and very light… it’s going to be fantastic. I’m tremendously stoked and can’t wait to start building it up!!
Toughest ride ever… so far
Anybody else get a chance to do some rain riding yesterday? I sure did!! I rode this 140mi loop between Santa Barbara and Moorpark on Saturday: Santa Barbara > Ojai > Moorpark 140mi Loop Share your bike routes @ Bikely.com About 60mi in the rain. Didn’t see any thunderstorms / lightning. Did get some pretty [...]
