Update on my “fitness jihad”

I guess it’s as good a time as any to do an update on my so-called “fitness jihad” began about a year ago…

The good news is, even though I’ve not been out on the paddleboard in months, I have lost a lot of weight from where i was back then (around 40lbs). This has primarily been due to my welldocumented cycling fanaticism… I no longer drive my car very much, I instead ride a bicycle… everywhere. It’s been pretty damn effective! LOL

As of June this year, I was down to 235. Since September/October or so I have been right around 215, and seem to have stabilized at that weight, at least for now.

The main changes I’ve made, besides riding my bike, are: switched to water and plain black coffee instead of drinking soda, cafe mochas, and other sugared drinks; eat smaller portions of somewhat healthier foods; and the thing that dropped the last 15-20lbs or so, cut back on drinking beer & alcohol. I used to drink way too much anyways, so this is helpful in many ways.

All in all, it was a real process, and none of it happened overnight. However, looking back at how much my life has changed in just over a year, I’m pretty amazed. I feel this lifestyle is pretty easily sustainable because it’s simply “my life” now… it’s not a diet, or an effort, or anything, it’s just what I do. Kinda cool I guess.

It’s all building blocks, one step at a time. The bike riding made me thirsty, so I drank more water… the water made me realize how much sugar crap I was drinking, so I just drank water instead… the alcohol made me have sleeping problems, so I just stopped drinking it and drank more water… now I wake up at 5:00am to pee, but at least I’m light enough to skateboard again! LOL

Anyways, I’m happy, and I hope to continue in this vein. My original goal was to get to 220 and I didn’t think I had a chance in hell of seeing it happen… now my goal is 200, and while I think it’s pretty unattainable, who knows? If I actually started making a real effort to cut fats and eat a more earth-friendly/vegan diet, anything could be possible 🙂
